Director, Publication and Information Marketing Paul Canning has held key roles in editorial, marketing and new product development for several professional publishing businesses during the past 17 years. He has had the opportunity to work in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. Participating in the acquisition and integration of several business units for Reed-Elsevier and Macmillan, he has worked in the consumer market and with the corporate and academic library communities. Since 1998, Paul Canning is the director of publication and information marketing for the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). In this role, he is a member of the team developing and marketing the IEEE's flagship product, IEEE/IEE Electronic Library Online (IEL), the comprehensive full-text collection of IEEE and IEE journals, conference proceedings and standards. Prior to the IEEE, Paul was the senior managing director of two of Reed-Elsevier's information businesses: Marquis Who's Who and National Register Publishing. He is proud to have been affiliated with the products Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, The Advertising Red Books, Directory of Corporate Affiliations as well as 25 other print and electronic reference products.
Paul started his publishing career in New York City then moved to Chicago in the 1980's to work for Macmillan's Directory Division where he held both editorial and product management positions. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1994 and a BA from Columbia College, Columbia University where he studied French literature.
