Since 1983, the National Science Council of the Executive Yuan has compiled the Yearbook of Science and Technology Taiwan ROC every year to give account of Taiwan 's technology policies and to show technology research achievements in the industrial, governmental and academic sectors. The performance measurement of sci-tech development each year is highlighted to help the government to formulate policies and stay abreast of global trends in technology advancement. The Yearbook serves the international and local communities to familiarize with Taiwan 's technological progress.

Since 2005, the STPI has been responsible for publishing the Yearbook of Science and Technology Taiwan ROC. Incorporating the experiences of national science and technology yearbook publication around the world and the feedbacks from related agencies, the STPI adjusted the structure and the content presentation. Through the editorial assistance of experts from various fields, the information of the technology research achievement has been enhanced for better understanding. In addition, Taiwan 's significant sci-tech development issues are highlighted in the book.
